Building on years of community engagement and family life in what is now Austin’s District 6, Krista co-founded Access Education RRISD in 2021. As President, she worked across lines that usually divide to build coalitions and coordinate advocacy in support of the neighborhood public schools, with Round Rock ISD serving more than 90% of District 6.
When confronted by two sitting school board members actively disrupting district operations and campaigning for a slate of like-minded candidates with support from Moms for Liberty, Defend Texas Liberty PAC, Round Rock One Family PAC, out-of-town billionaires, and more, Access RRISD endorsed and campaigned for its own bipartisan slate of school board candidates.
Despite being outspent by wide margins, Access RRISD candidates won every seat by margins of 15%-25%, thanks to effective grassroots organizing. In 2023, Access RRISD campaigned in support of RRISD’s first-ever VATRE election to fund staff raises, which passed by more than 70%.
With Krista as President, Access Education RRISD also organized advocacy efforts against the TEA’s overreach into local control of public schools, against vouchers, for increased public school funding, in support of identity-based bullying policies, and in support of a culture of safety and belonging on every campus.
Krista is committed to community engagement, people before partisanship, and taking action now to solve the problems confronting Austin and District 6.
Krista spent a decade as a commercial real estate appraiser specializing in the Austin housing market. Her experience includes analysis of the impact on property values of zoning changes, entitlements, nearby development, transportation, utilities, and other factors. As a Senior Vice President at CBRE, she appraised downtown residential towers, suburban apartments, residential subdivisions, properties intended for residential re-development, and more. Prior to joining CBRE, Krista appraised real estate impacted by road, utility, and other public works projects, with an emphasis on Austin and surrounding counties.
CBRE recognized Krista with its Appraisal Quality Award for the South-Central Region and selected her to serve on a national committee to improve the quality of appraisal report templates. While active in the appraisal field, Krista held the MAI (Member of the Appraisal Institute) designation and a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license. She was also a member of the Austin Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), and the International Right of Way Association (IRWA).
Krista graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University in NYC, with a BA in Art History. After graduation, she studied French at La Sorbonne in Paris, France.
Krista’s many roles in support of District 6 public schools in the past decade have included:
Population and job growth have already strained Austin’s housing, roads, and city services while cost of living has skyrocketed. Austin’s quality of life depends on effective action now by leaders with a solution-oriented approach to problem solving. More effective representation for District 6 is the pathway to a better balance between District 6 and citywide needs.
